In Its 45th Year, The Bank Of America Chicago Marathon Is Expecting 45,000 Participants

(CTN News) – The Bank of America Chicago Marathon announced today that 45,000 participants will be returning for the event’s 45th anniversary on Sunday, October 8, 2023.

This is the first time the event has reached that number. A notification will be sent to runners who entered the non-guaranteed entry drawing for the 2023 race today as to whether or not they have been selected to participate.

Those who are still interested in participating can ensure that they are part of an official charity team in order to secure their place in the field.

More than $292 million has been raised for local, national, and global causes by the Charity Program since 2002, including the event’s record-breaking $27.6 million raised by participants in 2022, making it the biggest charity event in the world.

Carey Pinkowski, the Bank of America Chicago Marathon Executive Race Director, commented, “We are delighted to announce that 45,000 runners will be taking part in the 2023 Bank of America Chicago Marathon for the first time since 2019.

As part of our millionth-finisher field, these participants will write their names in the history book of the event during a particularly special year in which they will become part of a unique event.

It will be a pleasure to celebrate their performances as well as those of the volunteers, spectators, and community members that have made the Chicago Marathon a world-class racing tradition.”

Runners who were the winners of the drawing will have the opportunity to join those who were guaranteed their spot in the race during the four-week application window.

It is pertinent to note that guaranteed entries include those who have completed the Chicago Marathon and Shamrock Shuffle in the past.

This includes time qualifiers, international tour groups, charity runners and those who were deferred or cancelled from a previous race.

Runners who did not receive an entry through the lottery can still sign up for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon Charity Program if they did not receive an entry through the drawing. It is estimated that 180 nonprofit organizations are participating in the 2023 Charity Program.

This program will raise funds for 10 cause categories, including education, youth development, health care, and social services.

A minimum of $1,750 is required for runners to register to run with an official charity at this time if they wish to run with one.
