Chiangrai Times – Two British men who attempted to steal ATMs from three Thai banks in a heist inspired by the Hollywood movie “Fast Five”, have been arrested, police said on Friday.

The suspects, identified as Alexander Milbourn, 25, and Shaun Edward Tracy, 34, were caught on Thursday after they and another unidentified Briton, who is still at large, allegedly attempted to yank ATMs out of the wall at three bank branches in Si Racha district in Chon Buri province, using nylon ropes attached to a car, Police chief Jamnong Rattanakul said.

They said they had tried to emulate a robbery committed by the main characters in the “Fast Five” movie,

The two men said they had tried to copy a robbery in the movie “Fast Five” where two Dodge Challengers are used to drag a vault from a building wall, a local daily said.

In all three attempted robberies, the three men were able to yank the ATMs out of the building wall in the early hours of the morning, but failed to open them and take any money out as the bank’s alarms went off and local residents had been woken up.

Police seized from them two nylon slings, four metal hooks, a Nissan sedan and a Nissan pickup truck.

Milbourn and Tracy allegedly told police they had been living in Thailand for more than 10 years but were unemployed and needed cash.

They said they had tried to emulate a robbery committed by the main characters in the “Fast Five” movie, who in one scene used two Dodge Challengers to drag a huge vault from a building wall. – TeakDoor
