PATTAYA – A Turkish National Identified by the passport as Sharam Khatami, 40, has been arrested after trying to extend his visa with a fake passport.

Chonburi Immigration Police detained the man after agents noticed his photo had been pasted in the book.

He was charged for forging a passport and taken to the police station for further prosecution.

Immigration police are taking extra-close looks at travel documents in the wake of the Aug. 17 Erawan shrine bombing in Bangkok in which several suspects are believed to have Turkish heritage.

There also have been several cases of fake passports or bogus visa stamps found in Chonburi by people trying to extend their stays in Thailand.
