CHIANG RAI – The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) First Vice President has travelled to Chiang Rai province to meet with the local people and encourage more of them to become democratic leaders.

NLA’s First Vice President Surachai Liengboonlertchai on Monday chaired the opening of a meeting in Chiang Rai in which local participants were invited to learn about the process employed to create participating democratic leaders.

The meeting was scheduled for January 25th and 26th with its main aim being to offer knowledge and information about the issue as well as helping local people gain a fuller understanding of the role of the NLA.

During the visit, the NLA members have attempted to persuade targeted locals, including chiefs from various government offices, executives of educational institutions, senior members of local administrative organizations, local artists, lawyers and members of the press from Chiang Rai, Nan and Phayao, to participate more actively in politics.

Mr. Surachai said that it is essential for people from all walks of life to be informed about and understand the system of democracy and how to participate in politics in the right way.
