Thailand’s Child Porn Laws Finally Amended, Now Carries Severe Punishment
Thailand’s National Legislative Assembly (NLA) amended the Criminal Code to include the possession, distribution and production of child pornography as a criminal offense and increased the penalty to a maximum of 10 years’ imprisonment and Bt200,000 fine.
The current penalty for these offenses is seven years in jail and/or up to Bt140,000 in fines. The committee tasked with examining the law also clarified the definition of child pornography to the NLA, which then passed the amendment 193:1, with two abstentions. This law is meant to be in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and will confront the supposed increase in the distribution of child pornography. – The Nation
