RECORD BREAKERS: The 26 couples stand victorious over their new record time

PATTAYA – In a Valentine’s Day-inspired event, 26 couples from around Thailand achieved Guinness World record status after starting the marathon cuddle on Thursday in Pattaya.

Sanderson Jones and Mikey Lear set record last march in UK

The group, which started as 32 couples, lasted an amazing 26 hours, 26 minutes and 26 seconds, organised by Ripley’s Believe It or Not museum in Pattaya. The couples beat the previous record of 25 hours, 22 minutes and 36 seconds set in March by Sanderson Jones and Mikey at the Pleasance Theatre in London, UK, on 2 March 2013

Thirty-two couples joined the Pattaya contest, but the 300,000-baht prize will be divided among the 26 couples who completed the event.

Rules for the competition that started Thursday were that the hugs had to be continuous — with both arms wrapped round each other at all times.

The contestants were allowed five-minute rest breaks every hour, in keeping with Guinness requirements.
