Thailand Defeats Malaysia 2-0 at AFF Suzuki Cup 2014
BANGKOK – Thailand has defeate Malaysia 2-0 in the first leg final of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2014 at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok thanks to goals from Charyl Chappuis and Kroekrit Thawikan.
Chappuis’ goal from the penalty spot in the 71st minute, after a foul by Fadhil Shas, was followed by a strike from Thawikan five minutes from the end.
Malaysia will now need to overturn a two-goal deficit in the second leg at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Saturday.
National coach Dollah Salleh and his charges will no doubt be looking to Malaysia’s second leg semi-final tie against Vietnam for inspiration for the final. Having gone down 1-2 to Vietnam in Shah Alam on Dec 7, Harimau Malaya roared back in the second leg of the semis on Dec 11 in Hanoi to beat the hosts 4-2 and advance 5-4 on aggregate to the final.
