Red Devils fans stand in a queue at the entrance of Rajamangala National Stadium for the friendly match between the Singha All Stars and Manchester United.

BANGKOK – David Moyes’ first match as the Manchester United boss went badly as his side lost to Thailand All Stars 1-0 in a friendly match at a sell-out at Rajamangala National Stadium yesterday, which can hold more than 50,000 people.

Without strikers Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, a toothless United paid the price in stifling heat in front of a sellout crowd.

After a scoreless first half, the All Stars, who included five Thai internationals, struck in the 49th minute through captain Teeratep Winothai, converting a pass from Dango Siaka.

It was sweet revenge for Thailand, which lost to the visitors 2-1 when they last came to town 12 years ago.

United left Bangkok right after the game for the next match in Sydney, where Van Persie will join the team.

For crazy fans the feast is still not over. July is a soccer month here with more exhibitions in the works – Chelsea on Wednesday, Liverpool on July 28, plus Barcelona on August 8.
