Thailand: 8 Killed, 13 Injured in One Day in 3 Separate Traffic Accidents

CHIANG MAI – Three people were killed and 12 others injured when a car collided with a pickup truck loaded with fruit pickers in Hot district early Sunday, according to media reports.

The accident occurred at about 7.10am at kilometre marker No. 55 on Hot-Doi Tao road in tambon Ban Tan, said Pol Capt Patarapol Wongchanta, a duty officer at Hot police station.

At the scene, the Toyota car was found by police and rescue workers to have rammed into a roadside tree. The driver, Supachai Krongsawat, 30, was killed. A woman, who has not yet been identified, travelling with him in the car was slightly injured. The car was severely damaged.

Meanwhile in Kamphaeng Phet four members of a family were killed and a man seriously injured in a head-on collision between a car and a pickup truck in Sai Ngam district on Saturday night, police said.

Pol Lt Col Pairoj Intasorn, a duty officer at Sai Ngam police station, said the accident occurred at about 8.30pm near Moo 5 village in tambon Nong Mai Kong on Kamphaeng Phet – Phichit Road.

According to witnesses, the accident involved a Toyota Corolla car and a Ford Ranger pickup truck. The car was heading for Phitsanulok while the pickup was travelling in the opposite direction, heading for Kamphaeng Phet, when they collided head-on.

The driver of the truck was seriously injured. He was admitted to Vajira Barami Hospital in Phichit Province.

In Samut Prakan man was killed and another injured after a motorcycle they were riding ran into the rear of a pickup truck parked on the shoulder of King Kaew Road in Bang Phli district in heavy rain early Sunday.

Pol Capt Kittipop Poldech, a duty officer at Bang Kaew police station, said the accident occurred at about 30 minutes after midnight.

Panuwat Wong-amat, 33, the driver of the pickup truck, told police that he parked his vehicle on one side of the road and went into an entertainment venue in the area. Shortly after midnight, while it was raining, he heard a loud noise of vehicles crashing and went out to the road to take a look.

He found that a motorcycle had hit his stationary pickup truck in the rear.
