Thai Political Violence Leaves 9 Dead, 554 Injured Since Last November
BANGKOK – Political violence in Thailand has killed nine people and injured 554 others since Nov 30 last year, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration said Tuesday.
The Public Health Ministry disclosed earlier that political clashes between Dec 26 last year and Jan 19 this year had left four people dead and another 267 injured, Xinhua news agency reported.
The ministry has warned of increasing risks of violent incidents and bloodshed in the coming days.
Anti-government protesters’ attempt to paralyse Bangkok to oust the caretaker government entered its ninth day on Tuesday, spilling over to more regions with demonstrators blocking government offices in various southern provinces.
By Sunday, 46 countries and regions have issued travel alerts for Thailand, said Sek Wannamethee, director-general of the Foreign Ministry’s Information Department.
Kuwait and Oman, the latest countries to issue travel alerts, have advised their nationals to leave Thailand.
