Strike By Eiffel Tower Staff Ends, Site To Reopen Sunday, Operator

(CTN News) – A strike by the employees at the Eiffel Tower has been called off, according to a statement released on Saturday by the company that runs one of the world’s most popular tourist attractions.

Paris City Hall recently announced that the Eiffel Tower would reopen on Sunday, according to Societe d’Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel (SETE), the organization that owns and operates the Eiffel Tower.

There was a first time strike by workers from the Eiffel Tower in protest over its management on Feb. 19. That was when workers protested at the unfair way the monument is being managed.

A French delegation will use the metal from the Eiffel Tower in the winners’ medals of the Paris Olympics. This is to commemorate the Olympics opening on July 26, 2024. The news comes as Paris prepares to host the event.

It has been reported that SETE and the unions have reached an end-of-strike agreement that stipulates that the parties will regularly review the company’s business model, maintenance costs, and sales through a body which will meet at least once every six months, according to a release from the company.

All customers who purchased tickets from SETE between February 19-24 will receive a refund for the amount they paid for their tickets.

It has been alleged by unions that Paris City Hall, which owns 99% of SETE, is underestimating the costs of planned maintenance and repairs to the monument in preparation for the Olympics.
