Prayad Marksaeng came from far back to win the $1 million Thailand Open

 

BANGKOK – Thailand’s Prayad Marksaeng today won his own national open with a three shot victory over Australian Scott Strange at the Thailand Open at the Thana City Golf and Sports Club outside of Bangkok.

Marksaeng was quickly out of the blocks today with three consecutive birdies to open his round after he had trailed third round leader Lucas Lee by two shots heading into today’s final round.

Prayad Marksaeng member of the Asian Tour since it began in its modern form in 1995.

The 47 year old was involved in a real battle early with Lee, Hu and Strange but three consecutive birdies during the middle of his round allowed him to establish a winning break.

Marksaeng, now a four time winner on the Japan Tour and a six time winner on the Asian Tour, leads both the 2013 OneAsia and Japan Tour money lists.
A resurgent Strange was runner-up for his second consecutive event having finished second behind Mike Hendry at the NZPGA Championship two weeks ago.

South Australian left hander Nick Cullen stormed home with a final nine of 31 for a round of 65 to finish alone in 3rd position while a large group were tied in 4th position namely the third round leader, Hu, the defending champion, Chris Wood, Jung-gong Whan, Min Gyu Cho, David McKenzie and Simon Yates.
David McKenzie was 10th and Brad Kennedy and David Smail 12th as the next best of the Australians.

The OneAsia and Japan Tour sanctioning partners will now play the Indonesian PGA Championship in Jakarta beginning on March 28th.

Prayad Marksaeng  was a member of Thailand’s winning golf team at the 1987 South East Asian Games and turned professional in 1991. He has been a member of the Asian Tour since it began in its modern form in 1995. He was won six events on the tour, becoming one of the first ten men to reach a million U.S. dollars in career earnings. He has also competed on the Japan Golf Tour and in 2008 won three tournaments in Japan.

Prayad represented Thailand at the 2007 and 2008 Omega Mission Hills World Cup and has been featured in the top 100 of the Official World Golf Ranking.
