CHIANG RAI – Provincial police have led a joint force sweep of crime to ensure understanding of Loy Krathong regulations, including what traditions can be engaged in.

Residents have been urged to report any suspicious activities to 191 or via the application Line.

In Chiang Mai, a joint force of soldiers, police and volunteers totaling 750 people has carried out a sweep against narcotics and criminal elements to ensure safety in the province for tourists who are expected to observe the Yi Peng Festival, Chiang Mai’s traditional Loy Krathong.
The province is also cracking down on the sale of fireworks and restricting the use of floating lanterns for the safety of planes.

In Lamphun, a caravan has been released to implement safety measures for the holiday period with extra checkpoints set up and closer monitoring of entertainment venues.
