LAMPANG – Thai Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) police have detained 30 year-old Sakda Srisod, on Monday after finding 1 million meth pills in a Hino transport truck he was driving from Chiang Rai Province.

Pol Gen Chalermkiat Sriworakhan, a deputy police chief, of the Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) told the Bangkok Post that NSB police followed the Hino transport truck from Chiang Rai before signalling police at the Mae Phrik checkpoint in Lampang to stop the truck as Mae Phrik checkpoint is equipped with an x-ray machine to scan for drugs.

Upon scanning the truck police found 1.1 million meth pills in wrapped packages inside three 200-litre plastic containers. Three mobile phones were also seized as evidence.

Mr Sakda told police he had earlier been hired twice to deliver drugs using his truck from Muang district of Chiang Rai along the country’s main highway instead of secondary roads to avoid being suspicious. He was paid 300,000 baht.

Pol Maj Gen Pornchai Charoenwong, said most methamphetamine pills (yaba) are now being transported in large consignments from the Northern Thailand using big trucks, using the main highways instead of secondary roads.
