BANGKOK – The national police bureau has launched an inspection on all at-risk spots along Thai roads in an attempt to help lower road casualties during the upcoming Songkran festival.

Deputy national police chief Police Lieutenant General Ruangsak Jaritek, on Wednesday, held a meeting with related offices to follow up on preventive measures against road accidents during the 2013 Songkran holiday period.

Police Lieutenant General Ruangsak said that more than 100,000 police officers and volunteers have been drafted to ensure safety and facilitate the public and motorists this year.

He stated that the Royal Thai Police plans to bring road casualties to the lowest-possible level in 2013.

Last year, there were 3,129 accidents and 320 were killed on the road during the Songkran holiday alone.

This year, the national police bureau has already launched an inspection of 2,054 at-risk spots long Thai roads, where accidents tended to happen.

Mr. Ruangsak added that landscapes and adjustments will be introduced at all these spots in order to help the public and motorists beware of possible accidents.
