BANGKOK – Mike Tyson, the former heavyweight world champion, has confirmed his desire to participate in the The Racing Pigeon International Association (RPIA) race in Thailand.

Mike Tyson, has maintained, trained, and raced 350 birds, and has called pigeon racing his “first love,” he’s famous as a fearsome fighter, but Mike Tyson has a surprising soft spot for his beloved pigeons.

Owning 3,000 of the birds, he called pigeon racing his ‘first love’. Much to his wife’s dismay, Tyson can spend hours at the coop, staring at the birds as they flap their wings and hop around.

The RPIA President Sunthorn Jarumol yesterday held the press conference on the association’s pigeon racing contests in the regional level of Thailand.

Sunthorn Jarumol said the RPIA is gearing up for Pigeon Racing this May, utilizing the route through the regions of Thailand, while planning to hold an international pigeon racing contest next year.The regional program includes the pigeon racing at the northern, northeastern, and southern region of Thailand. The competition is scheduled to commence in May 2015. Winner will receive the Royal Trophy from His Majesty the King.

The RPIA is also planning to hold an international pigeon racing contest in 2016. Participants from 30 countries have already confirmed attendance in the contest with about 20 thousand pigeons participating, of which some are worth up to 13 million baht.
