CHIANG RAI – The Meteorological Department of Thailand reported that a high pressure system coming down from China will hit northern Thailand and the South China Sea from Wednesday to Saturday, while hot to very hot weather will prevail all over the country.

Summer thunderstorms, as well as isolated gusty winds and hail, are expected in the North, Northeast, Central and East regions.

People are warned to keep away from big trees, advertising signboards and unstable buildings during heavy gusts.

Meanwhile, The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has revealed that the sources of smog have dwindled.

According to Permanent Secretary of Natural Resources and Environment Supoj Tovichakchaikul, the number of smog hotspots has been reduced to 167, with most of them located in the North of Thailand.

The Department of Pollution Control claimed the overall levels of smog in the North have risen by 50 micrograms per cubic meter.

Particles smaller than 10 microns ranged between 22-121 micrograms per cubic meter in the region, with the highest densities recorded in Chiang Rai province.
