Spectacular fireworks amid a chilly weather of the northern region

CHIANG RAI – Tourism Authority of Thailand, the Thai-Myanmar Cultural and Economic Cooperation Association, and the Pha Muang 2nd Cavalry Regiment Task Force, held a joint countdown to 2016 event with Laos and Myanmar in front of the Mae Sai – Tha Chi Lek border checkpoint on Phahonyothin Road.

Thailand, Laos and Myanmar all celebrated the joint countdown to 2016 event, “Sawaddee ASEAN”, in the border town of Mae Sai.

Attending the event were high ranking government and military officials, civil servants, tourists and locals from Laos, Myanmar and Thailand.

The event saw two actual countdowns, to click with the local time of the participating countries. The first countdown was held at the midnight in Thailand and Laos, and the second countdown was held 30 minutes later to celebrate the first minute of the New Year’s Day in Myanmar.

The countdown was one of its kind and monumental, as it also officially marked the beginning of the ASEAN Community. The celebration featured various performances and spectacular fireworks amid a chilly weather of the northern region.
