Longan Farmers from Chiang Rai Protest for Higher Prices
Chiangrai Times – About 300 longan farmers from 20 villages in Huay Sak district of Chiang Rai province rallied in front of the local administration office on Monday, demanding the government increase the price paid for their fruit, reports said.
The farmers complained that the price of grade AA quality longan, currently less than 20 baht per kilogramme, does not reflect the real price.
The farmers demanded that the government raise the selling price of longan grade AA to 20 baht or more, grade A to 18 baht and grade B to 10 baht per kilogramme.
After talks with local officials the protesters agreed to disperse but warned that they would be back if the government does not come up with a favourable answer within two days.
