Labor Ministry to Amend laws to Hire Foreign Skilled Workers
BANGKOK – The Labor Minister has reportedly agreed with a move to amend the law governing skilled labor, especially those seeking jobs in safety-related industries, to have their qualifications certified before they could be employed.
The Department of Skill Development (DSD) has proposed to Labor Minister Police Captain Chalerm Yubamrung a change to the skilled labor law. It will allow the Ministry of Labor to issue certificates to skilled workers of foreign nationals who are seeking employments as construction workers, a welders, electricians, etc.
According to the DSD, the amendment is aimed at assuring Thai consumers’ confidence of the work to be produced by foreign workers and that their quality is on par with the rest of ASEAN.
