Korean Man Arrested for Slashing the Tires of Toyota in Chiang Mai Mall

CHIANG MAI – South Korean tourist Gidon Tounglee, 30, was arrested by Mae Ping police in Chiang Mai for slashing the tires of a Toyota Vios in a shopping mall parking lot.

Gidon Tounglee, was detained by security guards at Central Festival Chiang Mai shopping mall after allegedly slashing all four tyres of a Toyota Vios car around 8.30pm on Thursday.

He was handed over to Mae Ping police, along with two knives – a short stabbing blade and a 7-inch knife.

He was initially charged with carrying weapons in a public area.

During questioning, the Tounglee told police he first went to the Warm Up pub in Muang district, where a Thai man, bumped into him and the pushed him in the chest, causing his prized amulet to fall to the ground and break.

The incident made him so angry that when he later visited the shopping mall he snapped and attacked a stranger’s car to vent his rage.

Police said Gidon Tounglee is the only son of a wealthy South Korean businessman and has been in Thailand for three months. Police fined him 1,000 baht and placed his offence on record.

He was released bail, pending an expected complaint by the car’s owner, who was being contacted by police.
