BURIRAM – Kawasaki Racing Team’s Jonathan Rea took his second win of 2015 at the inaugural Thai World Superbike round at the Chang International Circuit. And it was a perfect race for the Northern Irishmen, taking the holeshot from pole position and maintaining that lead unchallenged to the checkered flag. Rea credited his win to his crew’s helpful pit signals, which helped him manage a very lonely race up front.

Finishing a solid second was fellow Brit Leon Haslam on the Red Devils Roma Aprilia, who admitted to being to cautious at the start of the race while Rea put on a disappearing act.

Rea’s teammate Tom Sykes held off rookie Jordi Torres on the other Red Devils Roma Aprilia to make it an all-British podium. Although the former World Champion would rather be winning, Sykes was quite happy with the podium (his first of the season) considering the tough conditions

Pata Honda’s Sylvain Guintoli finished fifth, as the reigning champ continues to recover from a nagging injury from his pre-season crash at Jerez and adjusts to his new machine.

Voltcom Crescent Suzuki’s Alex Lowes rebounded to finish sixth after crashing out of third in the final corner on lap 12. Aruba.it Racing Ducati’s Chaz Davies made the same mistake a few laps earlier while trying to hold off Torres in fifth. Davies recovered from 15th to finish 11th.

The battle for seventh was ultimately won by Althea Racing Ducati’s Matthew Baiocco, finishing ahead of three-time World Champion Troy Bayliss and Team Pedercini Kawasaki’s David Salom. Rounding out the top 10 was Leandro Mercado on the Barni Ducati.

Both Team Hero EBR’s Larry Pegram and Niccolo Canepa retired from the race, with Pegram just a few laps shy of the finish. Rookie Michael van der Mark on the Pata Honda also retired from the race.
