Further Quakes in Chiang Rai Cause More Damage
CHIANG RAI – More Homes were damaged in three recent earthquake aftershocks in Thailand’s northernmost province of Chiang Rai, including the latest one with a magnitude of 4.3 on the Richter scale on July 16th.
Local officials found cracks at many houses in Ban San Kan Haew village of Mae Lao district. The 4.3 quake happened at about 8.30pm.
Villagers reported damage to three houses. Over 80 houses in the village were damaged in the May 5 earthquake of the 6.3 magnitude with its center being detected in Chiang Rai.
Local people are frightened by aftershocks that keep happening two or three times daily. They live in fear and must leave their doors open around the clock so that they can run for life right when a quake begins.
Bangkok Airways will contribute to the reconstruction of school buildings affected by the Chiang Rai earthquake, by providing air transportation to architects and staff involved in the rebuilding process
Meanwhile, Bangkok Airways recently announced their collaboration with the Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage to reconstruct school buildings affected by the Chiang Rai earthquake.
Bangkok Airways will provide air transportation to architects and staff who participate in this program.
The Association of Siamese Architects, together with the Engineering Institute of Thailand under H.M. the King’s patronage, the Consulting Engineers Association of Thailand, Thai Contractors Association Under H.M. the King’s Patronage and the Design for Disasters architect group have joined forces to help rehabilitate Chiang Rai by rebuilding 9 schools, 9 homes and 2 temples as well as attempting to reduce vulnerability in the local community to effectively and sustainably confront a disaster.
The reconstruction program includes Muang Phan Tambon Administration Organization School, Ban Tha Hor School, Thanthong Wittaya School, Ban Nong Bua School, Ban Thung Fapha School, Chumchon Ban Pa Kor Dam School, Pong Phrae Wittaya School, Ban Doi Chang School and Ban Huai San Yao School.
The Chiang Rai rebuilding program can be supported by donating to the “Association of Siamese Architects for Chiang Rai Recovery” bank account, no. 140-2-631196-6 Siam Commercial Bank, Srivara Branch.
