Former Prime Minister Abhisit Faces Another Murder Charge
BANGKOK – Opposition leader and former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva faces another charge of murder, three years after a military crackdown on demonstrators in the streets of Bangkok resulted in more than 90 deaths.
Mr Abhisit and his then deputy Suthep Thaungsuban were summoned on Tuesday to the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), an agency under the Justice Ministry, where they acknowledged the charge resulting from the death of a 14-year-old boy during the crackdown.
They were also accused of attempted murder over the case of a van driver who was wounded by soldiers at the same event.
In December last year, both Democrats, who helmed the Thai government in 2010, were charged with murder over the death of a taxi driver which the Thai court had earlier ruled was killed by a stray military bullet during the chaos.
