Foreign Affairs Permanent-Secretary to Clarify Thailand’s Political Situation at UN
BANGKOK – Permanent-Secretary for Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkaew is slated to attend a United Nations ministerial meeting in New York to further clarify Thailand’s political situation to the international community.
The 2014 UN Economic and Social Council ministerial meeting will tak e place from July 7-9 with an aim to address ongoing and emerging challenges for meeting the Millennium Development Goals in 2015 and for sustaining development gains in the future.
Mr. Sihasak is set to use the opportunity to persuade the United States and a number of South American nations that vehemently opposed the May 22 coup to understand the need for the military to take over the country’s administration. The permanent-secretary will stress about Thailand’s gradual return to democracy and its utter respect for human rights.
He will also present Thailand’s achievement in reaching millennium development goals, which is the focus of the upcoming meeting. –
