CHIANG RAI -The Provincial Land Transport Office in Chiang Rai has now mandated that Chinese tour agents must apply for driving licenses which can be temporarily used for a 30-days time in Thailand.

Land Transport Office Director Satawan Manokhrueng said that Chinese visitors to Chiang Rai Province might not be aware of traffic regulation which could cause road accidents.

He said that the office has used the Ministry of Transport’s regulation to issue the mandate for all Chinese drivers and tour agents to apply for driving licenses at the Provincial Land Transport Office, at least 10 days before their arrivals for approval.

The transport office is initiating a training program for Chinese motorists about the traffic laws in Chiang Rai Province.

Most Chinese vehicles enter Chiang Rai via the fourth Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge connecting Chiang Khong district in Chiang Rai with Ban Houayxay in Laos.
