Water flowed into corn fields causing a ‘slow death’ of the crop

CHIANG RAI- Several provinces in the North and Northeast still face heavy rain, whereas 5,000 rai of corn fields in Chiang Rai province have already been submerged.

With the gaps in the barrier, water had flowed into corn fields and caused a ‘slow death’ of the crop. Officials indicate that thousands more rai of farmlands will be inundated if the water barrier is not promptly repaired.

In Tak province, vendors at Rim Moei market in Mae Sot had to close their shops and move their belongings to higher ground because of the rising water level at the nearby river. In Bung Kan province, rubber tappers have been forced to tap rubber between 4-6 pm instead of at night, due to the continuous downpours.

In Phichit province, almost 3,000 rai of farmlands have been flooded by water that overflowed from the Yom river segment in Sam Ngam district.
