Chiang Rai Flash Floods Continue, Three-Year-Old Boy Missing

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has warned to be prepared for severe weather conditions and flooding

 

CHIANG RAI – Residents in Thailand’s Northern and Northeastern regions were warned today to prepared for possible flash floods due to the impact of Tropical Storm Jebi

As Flash floods and rain continue in Chiang Rai Province villagers have reported a three-year-old boy was swept away by the floods and remains missing.

In Mae Fa Luang district, a three-year-old boy was lost in a flash flood while walking with his parents along the river.
In Mae Chan district the floodwater has risen rapidly, flooding local households and agricultural areas.

According to Chiang Rai Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, flash floods and landslides have killed two persons and injured one, with one person missing. The natural disaster has damaged 15 districts, some 20 houses have been destroyed or partially damaged, along with crops on more than 45,000 rai of farmland, and numerous roads and bridges.

Thirteen districts will be proposed to the Chiang Rai governor as disaster zones for further budget to assist affected people and monitor all rivers with rising water.

Meanwhile, in the northern province of Mae Hong Son, a tree toppled onto an air-conditioned bus while it was moving on Highway 108 from Chiang Mai to Mae Hong Son, three kilometres from Mae La Noi district.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has warned 14 provinces to be prepared for severe weather conditions and flooding including Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Udon Thani, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit and Phetchabun.

In the northern province of Chiang Mai, Governor Adisorn Kamnerdsiri said he has warned all 25 districts to be prepared for natural disasters due to heavy from Friday through the weekend.
