CHIANG RAI – Pol Gen Somyos Poompanmuang  has told news reporters that four men have been arrested with illegal drugs worth more than 400 million baht in street value in Chiang Rai on Friday.

Pol Gen Somyos Poompanmuang said the suspects were intercepted in two vehicles on a bypass in Mae Chan district. They were identified as Titpanet Lao-song, Vikorm Rakkotmai, Arloom Dala and Kritpak Dala.

The four men tried to speed away but officers were able to shoot out the tires on their vehicles.

Police Drug Suppression Officers confiscated 976,000 methamphetamine pills, 35 kilograms of heroin, 1kg of crystal meth, a pickup truck and a sedan as evidence.

Pol Gen Somyos said the drugs were likely to be delivered to Bangkok even though the suspects  told investigators that they would be given to clients in Chiang Rai’s Chiang Saen district.

Authorities believe that the drug network led by Chaiwat Pornsakulpaisal, alias Lt Col Yi Sae, was behind the operation.
