CHIANG RAI – Immigration and Customs officials as well as military personnel have tightened security measures to screen for any suspicious items or persons who might possibly enter the country with intent to cause violence at Chiang Rai border crossings.
Many people passed Mae Sai cross-border checkpoint amidst tightened security measures during the holiday.
Mae Sai district in Chiang Rai has remained intact from bombing incidents in southern Thailand as the peaceful border town usually accommodated Thai and foreign visitors during holidays.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has thanked members of the public for helping the authorities with surveillance and security affairs following Friday’s bombings and blazes in the southern region of the country.
