CHIANG RAI – The Customs Department in Chiang Rai has completed it’s first course on the proper usage of Radiation Gate Monitor systems that are to be used at customs border checkpoints to prevent illegal transport of radioactive items into Thailand. 2013 HRG

Secretary-General Atchara Wongsaengchan of the Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP) has revealed the (OAP) will be observing and collecting the actual pages of the Radiation Gate Monitor system in targeted border areas, namely at Chiang Rai, Nong Khai, Mukdahan, and Nakhon Phanom provinces this year.

She has said the OAP will be providing continuous training to officials at the Customs Department on atomic energy usage safety, the screening of radioactive items, and the proper usage of the Radiation Gate Monitors.

The training in Chiang rai was attended by officials from the Immigration Bureau and the forensic science unit, with the goal to prevent the illegal smuggling of radioactive and obscure items through the customs checkpoints, enhancing the safety of domestic and international goods transport.
