CHIANG RAI –  Chamber of Commerce Vice Chairman in border trade, Pakaimas Vierra, has reported she is positive that the integration of the ASEAN Community will yield benefits to the country, especially Chiang Rai province due to its multiple border connections with neighboring countries.

According to Pakaimas Vierra, Chiang Rai Province will benefit directly from the integration of the ASEAN Community at the end of this year due to the province’s three key borders shared with Myanmar and Laos.

The three border areas are the Thailand – Myanmar border at Mae Sai District that connects with Tachileik, and the Thailand – Laos borders at Chiang San and Chiang Khong District that connects with Bokeo.

In addition to the location, she said the province has been selected as the gateway to ASEAN from China, increasing the potential investments from the people of Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, and China. Tourism and hotel businesses also have a bright future thanks to the tourists from ASEAN, China, Asia, and Europe.

Chiang Rai province’s economic potential is highlighted through border trade that links to ASEAN and China. The province also has a prominent capability in tourism and transport. Furthermore, the northern province is considered to be ready for the ASEAN Community due to its preparedness and its location as an important gateway of merchandise exports to the neighbouring countries and China.
