British Expat Charged with Reckless Driving Causing Death in Pattaya, Thailand

PATTAYA – British Expat Michael Ashbrooke, 42, has been detained in Pattaya Thailand, accused of killing a Russian tourist Oleg Yuzhikoy, 37 by reckless driving.
Mr. Oleg Yuzhikoy, lost his life and his pregnant wife Svetlana Ivanova, 31, suffered severe life-threatening injuries after they were hit by a speeding Toyota Fortuner while they were crossing the road back to their hotel room according to The Nation newspaper.

Pattaya Police claim that Michael Ashbrooke was behind the wheel of a speeding vehicle, however the 42-year-old British Expat denies any wrongdoing.
He says that he was not driving, and that the person who was behind the wheel fled the scene in the wake of the crash.
However, eyewitnesses are reported to have contradicted him, telling police he was the driver.
Police arrested Michael Ashbrooke, 42, on charge of reckless driving, causing deaths and injuries. He has been detained pending investigations into the fatal incident.
