Bangkok Police Hunt for Man Who Beat his Two-Year-Old Stepdaughter to Death

 

BANGKOK – Metro Police are hunting for a 34-year-old man reported to have beaten his two-year-old stepdaughter to death, ignoring her cries of anguish, at a house in Bangkok’s Bang Khunthian district.

Anucha Kaewpradit was accused by his wife of using a bamboo baton to brutally beat her two-year-old daughter to death, and then threatening her not tell anybody and just bury the body.

The 24-year-old mother sought help from Pavena Hongsakula, chairwoman of the Pavena Foundation for Children and Women, who later took her to lodge a complaint with police on Monday, the Bangkok Post reported.

The woman told police that Mr Anucha, 34, became angry after seeing her two-year-old daughter scattering talcum powder on the kitchen floor of their home in tambon Samae Dam in Bang Khunthian on April 21.

Mr Anucha scolded his stepdaughter and then used a bamboo baton to beat her several times. The girl cried out in pain but the man ignored her anguish.

The woman said she tried to help her daughter, but her husband would not stop. Instead, he used a spade handle to hit her several times before shifting back to hitting her daughter with the bamboo. Mr Anucha later left, and she hid in the bedroom with her injured daughter.

Shortly after, Mr Anucha returned and saw the girl drinking milk. He again became angry and  used the same bamboo baton to again repeatedly hit the girl, who kept asking him to stop, saying she would not do it again. He beat the girl until she stopped crying, said the mother.

An hour later, Mr Anucha’s son by a previous wife arrived at the house with a salve to treat the girl’s bruises. By then she had already stopped breathing.

The woman said her husband had threatened her, demanding she not to tell anybody else what happened and bury the girl’s body in a vacant area near their house. However, she could not come to terms with the loss of her daughter and decided to lodge the complaint against him.

A medical examination revealed the girl suffered severe bruising over her body and bleeding from the brain, the Pavena Foundation said.

According to the foundation’s Facebook, the mother said she and her daughter had lived at the man’s house for about four months. His his behaviour recently changed after he began taking illegal drugs.

Pol Col Yos Withitprapathamrong, chief of Thian Thalae police station, said police have a warrant for Mr Anuch’s arrest. Teams assigned to find him were searching near the sea and mangrove forest areas  around  Bangkok. The man owned a small boat and earned his living catching fish and shrimps and selling them in various areas.

Police in Samut Songkram and Samut Prakan had been asked to help track down the suspect.

Mr Anuch was also wanted  on an earlier arrest warrant in a theft case in Samut Sakhon, he said.
