CHIANG RAI – The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) is accelerating its efforts to prevent waste burning in Chiang Rai Province while the military works to supply water to drought-affected residents.

Commander of the Military Development Unit 35 Col Damrong Khongdej dispatched water trucks to distribute water to villagers in Pa Sang District of Chiang Rai’s Wiang Chiang Rung District. The vehicles are able to pump up 6,000 liters of ground water twice a week.

As for the prevention of wildlife and haze in the province, authorities reported that between February 1 to February 20, 95 wildfire hotspots were detected in Chiang Rai and 10 in Phayao Province.

The DNP has also created public relations material in the various languages of indigenous tribes in the region to persuade local tribes to refrain from burning.
