UDON THANI – Police have arrested a convicted Australian pedophile in northeast Thailand after detecting unusual transfers of funds from Australia.

Trevor Yardley, 71, from Western Australia, was detained at a house in Udon Thai, 470 kilometers northeast from Bangkok, by Royal Thai Police.

His arrest, follows a tip-off from Australian authorities Yardley had earlier served a seven-year jail term in Australia for the sexual abuse of two children. Immigration Police Bureau Chief, Lieutenant General Nathathorn Proupoontorn, told the Bangkok Post.

Yardley would be charged with entering Thailand without a valid visa and faced deportation. Reports said Australian authorities had called on their Thai counterparts to monitor Yardley after he began transferring funds from Australia to a Thai bank account.

No other charges are reported to have been lodged against Yardley by Thai authorities.

In 2012, Sydney man Ian Potterton was arrested for the sexual abuse of a seven-year-old Thai boy in the eastern city of Chantaburi.

Thai police, after receiving information from Australian authorities, arrested Potterton as he prepared to depart for Australia at the international airport.

In 2014, a Thai court convicted Potterton on the charges and sentenced him to more than 10 years jail.

Thai Police General Nathathorn said following talks Thai police were to have greater access to the database of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) to speed up processing of international arrest warrants of criminals hiding in Thailand.
