CHIANG RAI – Immigration Police in  have arrested a  45 Chinese Nationals in Chiang Rai’s Mae Sai district for allegedly operating an illegal call center which scammed people in Thailand and overseas.  The arrests were conducted in two separate operations on Sunday.

The first team arrested 31 Taiwanese nationals, seized 36 fixed-line phones, 30 mobile phones and 10 computers at a house in Mae Sai district.

A second team apprehended another 14 Chinese and Taiwanese nationals and seized a large amount of  communications equipment.

Pol Col Sithi Sirikangwankul, superintendent of Chiang Rai immigration police, said the fraudsters targeted Chinese and Taiwanese victims, demanding payment for outstanding debt and asking them to transfer money to nominated accounts.

He said a preliminary investigation showed that Mohan Sae Hor,33, was the gang leader.

The police would expand their investigation, Pol Col Sithi said.
