PHUKET – Rescue workers and medical staff from Vachira Hospital were called to an accident in Phuket where they found the body of Rakchart Kuldee, 36, from Koh Yao District in Phang Nga, wedged under a Toyota pickup truck.
On the ground in front of the pickup’s front-right wheel was 4-year-old Chinnaphat Kuldee. He had cuts and scrapes to his face, and was crying for help.
Fragments of a broken helmet were scattered all around scene of the impact, the Phuket News Reported.
Medical staff were unable to revive Mr Rakchart, and he was pronounced dead on arrival at Vachira Hospital. Young Chinnaphat was also taken to Vachira for treatment of his facial injuries.
Witness told police that Mr Rakchart sped through the red light northbound on his Honda Wave motorbike and collided with another motorbike, a Honda Air Blade, that was travelling along Poonphon Rd.
“Apparently Mr Rakchart was rushing to catch a boat back to Koh Yao [island],” Maj Sakon Krainara told the Phuket News.
“Mr Rakchart and his son were knocked off their motorbike and into the front of the truck, which was waiting at the red light, ready to head off in the opposite direction,” Maj Sakon said.
“Mr Rakchart’s head struck the front of the truck, causing severe head bleeding. The driver of the Honda Air Blade suffered only minor injuries,” he added.
The pickup truck driver and the driver of the Honda Air Blade were taken to Phuket City Police Station for questioning, Maj Sakon confirmed.
The Phuket News has learned that the Chinnapht is recovering at Vahcira Hspital and his family from Koh Yao arrived last night to be with him.
