3 Day Mekhong Bike Thai-Lao 2016 Kicks off in Chiang Rai’s Chiang Khong District
CHIANG RAI – Cyclists across the Kingdom took part in the “Mekhong Bike Thai-Lao 2016” in Chiang Khong district of Chiang Rai Province on Thursday.
Permanent Secretary for Tourism and Sports Pongpanu Svetarunda and Chiang Rai Governor Boonsong Techamaneesathit chaired the opening ceremony at the Catfish and Freshwater Fish Museum in Chiang Khong district.
The race aims at tightening relations between Thailand and Lao PDR, and promoting tourism, and cycling as an exercise. The organizers said the event also encourages cultural exchange between the peoples of the two countries.
The three-day race stated from the museum, to Wat Mai Si Rom Yen, Phaya Pipak Forest Park, and finished the first day event at Phu Chi Fa. Cyclists will travel to Houaixay district of Bokeo in Laos on the second day, passing Wiang Kean district and the Fourth Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge.
The participants on the final day will explore the tourist sites in Houaixay district before cycling to Tonpheng district along the Mekong River. From there, the cyclists will conclude the race by taking a ferry home to Chiang Sean district.
