PATTANI– A two-week-old girl was found dehydrated but alive next to the bodies of her slain parents in southern Thailand, police said Wednesday.

“On Tuesday evening villagers found the child asleep in a hammock near the bodies of her parents who had been killed at least two days ago in their hut,” said Police Lieutenant Colonel Virat Kotsaeng, of Than Toh district, in Yala, about 800 kilometres south of Bangkok.

The infant was rushed to a nearby hospital and survived.

The child’s parents were Myanmar migrant workers on a rubber plantation. They had both been killed by axe blows to the head, police said.

“We suspect this was the result of a private quarrel, as nothing was stolen,” Virat said.
