2 Korean Missing, 45 Injured is Speed Boat Accident in Phuket

Rescue workers and hospital staff, prepared to provide immediate medical care, are waiting with officials at Rassada Pier.

 

PHUKET – A Korean, man and woman are missing and 45 others are injured after a speedboat crashed into a fishing trawler about five nautical miles off Yao Yai island on Sunday evening,  Phuket Marine Police Reported.

Chief of the Marine Police Division’s sub-division 8,Pol Col Phumin Phumpanmuang reported the speedboat, owned by Seastar Company was taking tourists from Phi Phi island in Krabi to Phuket.

Phuket Gazette Reports a total 46 passengers affected, 37 are a mix of Chinese, Europe and Korean tourists, four are Thai boat crew and skippers, two are tour guides, one is a photographer and the two tourists who are still missing are thought to be Koreans

A team of police and rescuers were still trying to find the two missing tourists.

Anupong Arsarat, a former administrative official on Yao Yai island, said the speedboat operated by Mr Surat Matorot, was likely to have been traveling at high speed despite heavy rain causing poor visibility.
