BANGKOK – Thailand’s Constitutional Court was non-committal regarding its response to a request by caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to extend her deadline for presenting clarifications on the transfer of the former National Security Commission (NSC) chief for 15 days.

Chaowana Traimas, Secretary-General of the Constitutional Court Office, said the premier’s request will be submitted to the judges’ regular meeting on Wednesday.
Ms Yingluck yesterday asked her lawyers to seek Court approval for a 15-day extension on presenting her clarifications on the controversial transfer of Thawil Pliensri as NSC chief to an inactive post two years ago.
Mr Chaowana said Ms Yingluck’s request will be included in the agenda for Wednesday’s meeting of the Constitutional Court.
He said the judges’ consideration of the case will be free of political motivation, and that that the judges did not feel pressured despite widespread criticism from various quarters in Thai society.
The judges strictly abide by the constitutional framework, he said.
Somrit Chaiwong, Constitutional Court spokesman, said it would be up to the judges whether the prime minister’s request for an extension of her clarifications will be approved.
If the judges decide against the extension, a new date will be set for her, he said.
