CHIANG RAI – The Chiang Rai Chamber of Commerce has lauched a special office on border trade in Chiang Saen district in preparation for the implementation of the AEC in 2015. The chamber of commerce has also set plans to establish three border districts as special economic zones.

After presiding over the opening ceremony of the office on Thursday, Chairman of the Chiang Rai Chamber of Commerce Boontham Thipprasong said all sectors paid more attention to border districts in the province, including Mae Sai, Chiang Saen and Chiang Khong, as the AEC was drawing near. These districts would soon become important gateways where investment from the neighboring countries was poured after the AEC was launched, he said.

The office’s main task is to coordinate the public and private sectors in implementing strategies and tackling obstacles concerning border trade.
