Glasgow-born Douglas crows about being ahead of the law since his arrest in 1994 for allegedly masterminding one of the world’s biggest cannabis deals.

KOH SAMUI – 52-year-old  British National Walter Douglas once described by police as Scotland’s main drugs dealer – has been found by Sunday People investigators running a nightclub.

A man once suspected of being one of Britain’s biggest drug barons toasts his new life in Thailand and brags that he beat an international manhunt.

Walter “Wacky” Douglas, who once faced a £150million money-laundering charge, was on Interpol’s Most Wanted list and was quizzed over the murder of a Great Train Robber.

Now he has resurfaced in Thailand at The Dreamers Beach Club, claiming stories about his past are “all fiction”.

Now the 52-year-old “Tartan Pimpernel” – once described by police as Scotland’s main drugs dealer – has been found by Sunday People investigators running a nightclub on the Thai island of Koh Samui.

From his new beach side base Douglas boasted: “The fact is nothing stuck on me. Nothing at all. Yes I went to court for money-laundering in Spain but it was a load of rubbish and the judge threw the case out in three days.

“Yes I went to jail in the Netherlands on drugs charges and served six months on remand and three months awaiting appeal.

“But then they threw the case out because the investigation against me was conducted with illegal phone taps.

“Yes I was interviewed in Spain in connection with the murder of former train robber Charlie Wilson. But that was another mistake.

“I had the perfect alibi. I was in Tenerife on business.”

The freighter the Brittania Gezel was seized with 18 tons of the drug.

Douglas was sentenced to four years’ jail in Holland but fled to Spain after being given bail while he appealed claiming Dutch police used illegal phone taps.Spanish officers caught up with him four years later in Fuengirola but charges of laundering at least £150million failed to stick. An extradition attempt to Holland also failed and Douglas moved again – to Russia. In 2005 he fled the Russian mafia after a “bad deal” and turned up in South Africa with two Latvian bodyguards. From there he reportedly sailed to Spain in a 75ft Sunseeker Predator yacht, where he was arrested again in 2005.But Douglas again beat the authorities because his international arrest warrant had expired.

Now he has resurfaced in Thailand at The Dreamers Beach Club, claiming stories about his past are “all fiction”.

Douglas, who has had facial plastic surgery, lives in a walled complex nicknamed Palm Springs.

Locals say he was very secretive when he arrived four years ago but now he likes to go up to people and ask: “Do you know who I am?”

One said: “He became public at the opening of Dreamers in June.”

Pictures on social media show him posing with beautiful women and DJ-ing at the club.

Last night UK police, Customs and Interpol said they knew of no outstanding warrants against Douglas. – By Sunday People
