Viagra Lowers Men's Alzheimer's Disease Risk, Based on a Study

(CTN News) – Medications treating erectile dysfunction, such as Viagra, have been shown to reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease developing in men who take them, according to a new study.

It was found that 260,000 male participants participated in the study and that the men who took the medicine were 18% less likely to develop dementia-causing diseases than those who did not take it.

In order to prove whether these two factors are connected, further research will have to be conducted.

It has been shown that two new Alzheimer’s medicines have shown great promise in slowing the progression of the disease at the earliest stages of its development.

In order to change the course of treatment for Alzheimer’s disease, these drugs target beta-amyloid, a protein found in the brains of those suffering from the disease and which accumulates over time.

According to a new study published in the journal Neurology, researchers from University College London took a close look at the prescription records of thousands of men suffering from erectile dysfunction, comparing those prescribed the drugs with those who had not taken them.

In this study, men with the most prescriptions for erectile dysfunction medications had the lowest risk of Alzheimer’s disease. This indicates that consistent use of erectile dysfunction medications may have a strong protective effect against Alzheimer’s disease.

Despite the fact that the study may point the way to new research directions, it does not prove that the medications themselves are lowering the risk of Alzheimer’s disease, according to the researchers.

According to Ruth Brauer, the lead researcher on this study, “More research is required to confirm these findings, to learn more about the potential benefits and mechanisms of these drugs, and to determine the optimal dosage for these drugs.”.

It is also intended that the researchers intend to conduct experiments on females in order to determine if the medication has any effect on them.
