TV Actress "Nida" Still Missing After Falling Off Speedboat

The search for TV actress Nida “Tangmo” Patcharaveerapong, who fell from a speedboat into the Chao Phraya River near Rama VII Bridge on Thursday night, continued on Friday.

Six passengers were on the boat including the 37-year-old TV actress. The speedboat was travelling from Krung Thon Bridge in Bangkok to Rama VII Bridge in Nonthaburi province.

Nida allegedly fell off the boat at about 10 pm near the Pibul 1 pier in Nonthaburi’s Muang district.

Soon afterward, divers were called in to help in the rescue effort. On Friday evening, she remained missing.

According to media reports, Nida was sitting on the back of the boat before she slipped into the river around 10:40 pm. Nida was not wearing a life jacket.

Riverside residents report hearing people screaming “Mo’s lost!” and “Mo, where are you?” repeatedly from the speedboat.

Around midnight, rescuers and divers arrived at the scene. It was pitch dark and the current was very strong.

Panida Sirayootyotin, 67, said her missing daughter was an excellent swimmer, but might not have been able to handle the strong current.

During morning and evening rush hours, the search was suspended so that river traffic could proceed.

The investigators searched the water surface and under houses for signs of a body that evening. Police also examined the speedboat for any signs of blood or foul play.

Nida was born in Bangkok on Sept 13, 1984. During her time at Rangsit University, she received a bachelor’s degree in leadership in society, business, and politics.

The name she was given as a child was Tangmo Patcharaveerapong. She changed her name twice – first to Pataratida, and then to Nida.

Nida began her career in the entertainment industry when she was in the seventh grade. She placed fourth in the 2002 Miss Teen Thailand beauty contest.

The TV actress has starred in a number of soap operas on Channel 7.
