Tourists Flocking to Chiang Rai’s Phu Chee Fah

Group of Tourists early morning at Phu Chee Fah

 

CHIANG RAI – Tourists are flocking to Phu Chee Fah to catch a glimpse of the cool season mists, Sanit Homnan, head of Phu Chee Fah Forest Park, said 28,765 tourists visited Phu Chee Fah to watch the fog and sunrise yesterday morning.

Temperatures on the peak have dropped to 5-7C at night, rising to 6-10C in the morning, Phu Chee Fah is one of Chiang Rai’s top tourist attractions during the New Year holidays.

A total of 27,895 people visited the peak to view the first sunrise of the year on Jan 1, 2015, more than 20,000 tourists visit daily throughout the holiday period and accommodation in the area is fully booked.

Chiang Rai’s Meteorological Department said the lowest temperature in flat areas of the province is currently 11.3C. Temperatures dropped to 5C in mountainous areas.

Meanwhile, Subin Jaiwan, 26, from Phayao, was found dead at his home in tambon Mae Lai, in Muang district early yesterday, according to Pol Lt Natdanai Sitsasn of Muang Phrae police he died from the cold weather.

Pol Lt Natdanai Sitsasn told the Bangkok Post Mr.Subin Jaiwan was found with a blanket covering the lower part of his “stiff” body. A doctor from Phrae Hospital said the man suffered convulsions due to the cold weather before dying of a heart attack.

Kannika Luelok, 31, the victim’s wife, said she found him dead in the morning when she tried to wake him up for work. The victim worked as both a milkman and fruit vendor.

On Thursday night, Subin and his seven-year-old son had slept in the basement of their house, while Ms Kannika and another son slept on the second floor.

According to his wife, Subin always suffered during cold weather, the symptoms normally went away after he took a rest, she said.

Night time temperatures in the province are currently hitting lows of 14C.
