Thailand Pass Could Be Dropped On July 1
(CTN News) – Thailand’s tourism minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakan says the ‘Thailand Pass’ may be eliminated completely on July 1. The fate of the Thailand Pass will be decided at the next meeting of the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) on June 17.
Thailand Pass was already dropped for Thai nationals on June 1, but foreigners still need to apply. For incoming foreign travelers, the Thailand Pass website requires them to upload their passport information, proof of Covid-19 insurance covering US$10,000, and vaccination record to obtain a QR code they can use when going through immigration.
ATK test kits taken by officials or proof of a negative PCR result are required for unvaccinated tourists arriving at the airport.
Thailand Pass is considered to be one of the greatest barriers to the revitalization of the tourism industry in Thailand, and Thailand will reach 30,000 incoming tourists per day if it is scrapped.
Yuthasak Supasorn, governer of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, announced that the TAT will hold a meeting with the private sector on Friday to exchange ideas on the topic which will then be presented to the CCSA on Friday.
Foreign tourists will be more inclined to book flights to Thailand without the hassles and paperwork associated with the Thailand Pass. Using only their passports will be allowed to enter Thailand if no new red tape is in place of Thailand Pass.
