Thai Air Force Pilot Severely Injured After Crashing F-5 Fighter
On Friday, a Royal Thai Air Force pilot sustained multiple broken limbs after his F-5 fighter jet crashed during training in Lop Buri province.
An Air Force spokesman, AVM Prapas Sornchaidee, said the pilot, from Wing 21, crashed his F-5 fighter jet into a training field in Chai Badan district around 11 am.
The pilot was seriously injured after ejecting from the fighter jet and was transported to a hospital.
According to AVM Prapas, the chief of the air force expressed deep concern for the injured pilot. An inquiry into the crash had been set up by the air force.
The source said that the plane was almost 40 years old, but had been properly maintained.
W/Cdr Sutthimet Ouamma, 36, was later identified as the injured pilot.
Two of his legs and his left arm were broken, but he was not in danger and in stable condition. According to the report, he will be transferred to Bhumibol Ayulyadej Hospital for treatment.
Apparently, the crashed plane came to rest in a large pond, with debris scattered everywhere. The area surrounding the wreckage was cordoned off by police.
Ubon Ratchathani province is home to 19 Royal Airforce F-5 fighter jets.
