John Wallengren, 27 found hanged in Northern Thailand

CHIANG RAI – A 27-year-old Swedish man John Wallengren who was internationally wanted for a murder in the Canary Islands has been found hanged  in Northern Thailand.

Wallengren was suspected of the murder of the 32-year-old mother of two Angela de Carmen, a resident in the Canary Islands. He disappeared shortly after the murder almost three weeks ago and was  found dead in Thailand on 21 July.

“We can confirm that he is dead and that relatives have been informed” says Carolina Ekéus, press officer at the National Police. “He entered Thailand on July 17 and found dead on July 21″.

Wallengren, aged 27, was thought to have fled to Turkey and was the subject of an international arrest warrant following the discovery of the single mother’s body at the Las Canteras beach.

Police say he hanged himself at a house in northern Thailand and left a 2-page letter in Swedish confessing to the killing. The Thai authorities say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with Wallengren’s death.

The Thai police spokesman Voraporn confirmed yesterday that there is no indication of foul play and his body has been sent to Bangkok for a post-mortem examination. – Farang Exits
